Model Cars: High End 1:43
IMG_8826

Even to those not interested in motor racing, high end model cars provide an appeal over and above their historical account of Formula 1 motor racing.

Like many Formula 1 fans, I have a great interest in model cars. Below are photos of some of the models in my collection. I hope you enjoy the photos and feel to ask any questions you may have about collecting model cars. For me the photos serve as a good record but may also provide you with ideas on different manufacturers and models on the market. All the best.

BBR Models

BBR models have been a leading manufacturer of high-end model cars since 1984. In the last twenty years BBR appear to have made noticeable shifts in the type of models they produce. As can be seen in the Formula 1 models I am able to show below, the company has gone from producing each of the top 4 teams in Formula 1 in 1994, 1995, and 1996, to now only building exclusively Ferrari Formula 1 cars.

Unlike other manufacturers, BBR is reknowned for building Ferrari road cars, and all forms of race cars from various endurance series around the world. In recent years the company has been building an increasing number of editions of the same model which in my opinion has taken away the exclusivity of the brand. Nevertheless the quality has never appeared to diminish in this time and they still remain one of the most recognisable brands in the world.

Tameo/Silverline

Unlike BBR which spread their collection across a variety of different different motor racing categories, Tameo and their other brands have always built Formula 1 cars with the exception of a brief entry into producing indycars in the late 80s and early 90s.

In the last ten years Tameo have capitalised on their position as the only high-end model manufacturer constructing multiple Formula 1 teams cars from both the current Formula 1 seasons but also classic Formula 1 cars as well. This is best shown in their decision to move away from solely constructing kits, to increasingly producing built models as well. This is not the first time the company has sold it’s models in a built form with the 1990 McLaren MP4/5b and 1991 Ferrari 641 being sold to the public.

I have recently added a couple of Tameo pre-built models into my collection. In the coming weeks I will add a few more photos to the page and provide a short comparison of the Tameo 2009 BGP 001 in both its pre-built Tameo form and in it’s kit-built guise from NewAce. The difference in appearance is important as the price of the models built differs by almost double!!

At present, the models featured in this section are mainly from NewAce models in Hong Kong. Below are some models from my current collection of NewAce tameo builds. Included is also builds from Bidz Angel who I have every reason to believe are also built by the NewAce company. Finally the other builder featured are the Tameo Renault R25 of Fernando Alonso and the Crescent Williams FW23 of Juan Pablo Montoya, both by Colin Fraser, a builder widely reknowned as one of the best in the business.

Please Enjoy.

  2. Yes, it is an absolute fact that Colin Fraser is one of the very model car builders on the planet. He notices small details about real race cars and can very cleverly put them into a 1/43 model car in the very best way possible. Amazing!

    • My great pleasure. Thank you very much for the comment. I haven’t contributed to the site recently but good to see people still looking. I’m trying to save a bit of money at the moment and the exchange rate is not what it used to be unfortunately. Keep up the great work, love the models and particularly your display cases. Kind regards. Jack
